LINCOLN, NE (The Spread) – A top 10 prospect in this year’s NFL draft reportedly failed a drug test at February’s scouting combine in Indianapolis.
Nebraska defensive end/outside linebacker Randy Gregory is expected to be selected in the top 10 of next month’s NFL draft, perhaps even in the top 5. But he admitted to NFL.com that he failed a drug test at the scouting combine last month, which could impact where he’s selected in April.
“I blame myself,” Gregory said while claiming he used to smoke marijuana to deal with anxiety, but has moved past it. “I don’t wake up every day saying, I’d really love to go smoke. It’s not a struggle for me every day (now), it really isn’t. In the past, hell yeah, it’s been a struggle. It really has been. Now, I’m focused on my dream.”
The Redskins, which currently own the No. 5 overall pick in next month’s draft, have been linked to Gregory in many mock drafts. The Jets (No. 6), Bears (No. 7) and Falcons (No. 8) could all use edge rushers as well.
