Royals, Sox brawl in Chicago
CHICAGO, IL (The Spread) – Following a wild seventh-inning brawl between the White Sox and Royals on Thursday, the team teams will meet again tonight in Chicago.
After Yordano Ventura and Chris Sale each took turns hitting batters from the opposite team, things got ramped up in the seventh inning with Adam Eaton to the plate. After Eaton hit a comebacker to Ventura on the mound, television replays appeared to have showed Ventura bark an expletive at Eaton before throwing to first base. This initiated a benches-clearing brawl that got heated around first base.
“[Ventura] kind of, you can watch the video, but I think when he came at me with the two-step that he did, and then he said something, I was a little thrown back by it,” Eaton said via ESPN. “And then I had some words for him. … He’s a heck of a competitor, a heck of a pitcher. He wouldn’t be where he is if he wasn’t that way. I’m the same way.
“It just happened really quick. I’m sure if you asked him right now, he’ll probably say no, he wished he didn’t act like that or he wished he didn’t react like that. But in the heat of the moment, you do some stupid stuff.”
This is the second situation in as many weeks involving the Royals and an opposition arguing on the field. Kansas City also tussled a bit with the Oakland A’s last week following what the Royals perceived was a dirty slide by Brett Lawrie.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Royals are -107 money line favorites versus the White Sox, who are -101 money line underdogs for tonight’s game in Chicago. Danny Duffy will oppose Jose Quinatana in the pitching matchup.
