SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) – New Texas Rangers manager Jeff Banister had a simple message when he addressed the team for the first time.
In a nearly 30-minute team meeting before the first full-squad workout Thursday, Banister asked Rangers players: ”Why not us?”
The Rangers had an American League-high 95 losses last season, their most since 1985.
But Banister said everybody has had the opportunity to reflect on that and understand what happened. He said it is now time to focus on this season, and working to be a playoff contender again.
In each of the four seasons before 2014, the Rangers won at least 90 games. That stretch included their only World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011.
