TRENTON, N.J. (AP) – Attorneys are arguing in court over the fraud conviction of former NBA player Tate George.
The former UConn star who later played for the New Jersey Nets and Milwaukee Bucks was convicted last fall in what prosecutors contend was a real estate Ponzi scheme.
Among the victims were pro athletes including NBA players Charlie Villanueva and Brevin Knight.
George has appealed to have his conviction thrown out. He has accused the government of prosecutorial misconduct during the trial and also claims his attorney didn’t introduce key documents or witnesses to rebut the government’s case.
A prosecutor argued in court Friday that the evidence was overwhelming that George used investors’ money for personal purchases and to pay relatives.
