Todd Gurley to be a top-10 pick?
CHICAGO, IL (The Spread) – Georgia running back Todd Gurley is the consensus top running back in this year’s NFL draft class but will he go in the top 10?
According to Yahoo! Sports’ Charles Robinson, the “word on the street” is that Gurley will be a top-10 pick on Thursday night when the 2015 NFL Draft kicks off in Chicago. Robinson went as far as to write that Gurley will be selected in the 6-10 range, perhaps No. 6 to the Jets, No. 8 to the Falcons or No. 10 to the Rams.
In related news, Albert Breer of the NFL Network reports that Gurley has a “great shot” to be ready for Week 1 after tearing his ACL last season at Georgia. The running back’s medicals indicated that he could return at some point during training camp, which gives credence to the notion that Gurley will be drafted high on Thursday night.
That said, the value of running backs have become suppressed over the years because of the league’s infatuation with the passing game. Plus, starting running backs can be found in the middle rounds, as evidence of the success of players like Jamaal Charles, DeMarco Murray, LeSean McCoy and many others. Thus, Gurley may go in the first round, but it may be a reach to say he’ll be selected in the top 10.
