XLII Betting Tops 100,000
There is just over nine hours to go until kickoff of Super Bowl XLII between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots, and our current NFL Public Betting Information shows that wagering has now topped the 100,000 point spread bet mark.
With five of the top online sports books reporting, this year’s Super Bowl will likely be the most wagered on game of the year across all sports and possibly the most bet on game in history according to online sports book Bodog.
Mike Seaton from the sports gambling information site, TheSpread.com, said that this game would almost certainly break all betting records.
“You see the predictions coming out of Vegas where they are forecasting $100 million in handle and that is only from a few dozen sports books,” said Seaton. “When you consider that there are hundreds of online sports books that service the global marketplace it’s really mind blowing to see the amount of money that will change hands this Sunday.”
Of these first 100,000 bets, the public overwhelmingly likes the New York Giants to cover the -12 point spread against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. Sixty-four percent or roughly 64,000 individual point spread bets that have been placed on this game have been placed on the Giants +12. This means that the general public feels that the Giants will either win Super Bowl XLII outright, or will only lose by 11 points or less.
We asked Mr. Seaton about why the Giants are receiving so much support despite the Patriots undefeated season and march towards victory.
“Covering the point spread as an underdog and winning the Super Bowl are two different things,” said Seaton. “Look at the money line right now, it’s sitting at New England –450 – if anyone really thought the Giants could win this game this would be a lot cheaper.”
