Breeders’ Cup Information:
The Breeders’ Cup is an annual series that started in 1982. The race was once ran as only a single-day event, but switched to a two-day format in 2006 and remains so today.
The entire Breeders’ Cup is a series of 14 races that begin on a Friday and extends through Saturday. The 14 races are as follows: Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf, Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic, Breeders’ Cup Marathon, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, Breeders’ Cup Sprint, Breeders’ Cup Mile, Breeders’ Cup Turf and Breeders’ Cup Classic.
The 14th and final race is the Breeders’ Cup Classic, which usually pits some of the best thoroughbreds in the sport. In last year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic, Curlin won the 1-1/4 mile race and netted a $5,000,000 prize. Hard Spun came in second, while Awesome Gem finished for show.
This year’s Breeders’ Cup will feature two of the best thoroughbreds in the sport, when Curlin (3/1) goes head to head with Big Brown (5/1), who was a win at the Belmont Stakes away from winning horse racing’s most prestigious honor: The Triple Crown.
