Heisman Trophy Odds
It’s never too early to start thinking about the Heisman Trophy, which is an annual award given to college football’s best player.
Oddsmakers from SBG Global have released individual odds for all the 2008 Heisman Trophy candidates, so lets take a closer look.
Bet the 2008 Heisman Trophy Winner
The Favorite: Tim Tebow, QB, Florida.
Not surprisingly, oddsmakers love Tebow’s chances to win the 2008 Heisman Trophy and have made him a 7/2 favorite. Tebow won the prestigious award in 2007, edging out Arkansas running back Darren McFadden by just 254 total votes. Tebow was an All-American in 2007 and the AP Player of the Year. He also won the Davey O’Brien Award, the Maxwell Award and was the SEC’s Male Athlete of the Year. Given his versatility as both a quarterback and a rusher, as well as how valued he is in Florida’s offense, Tebow is the clear cut favorite to win the 2008 Heisman Trophy.
The Value Picks: Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State; Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia; Chase Daniel, QB, Missouri.
While Tim Tebow is favored to win the 2008 Heisman Trophy, there are some great value picks among the candidates, including Ohio State running back Chris Wells (6/1), Georgia running back Knowshon Moreno (8/1) and Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel (9/1).
Daniel was the only other 2008 Heisman candidate that received votes for the award in 2007. Daniel finished fourth behind Tebow (462), McFadden (291) and Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan (54) with 25 first place votes. If he can match or improve upon his 2007 campaign in which he threw for 4,306 yards and 33 touchdowns, Daniel could be a great value pick in 2008.
Many believe that “Beanie” Wells will give Tebow a run for his money this year for the Heisman. In just his second season, Wells rushed for 1,609 yards on 274 carries, which was good for a 5.9 YPC average. He also finished with 15 touchdowns and should see significant action again for the Buckeyes, who love to run the football.
If you want a potential stud this season, it could be Georgia’s Moreno, who finished with 1,334 rushing yards on 227 carries and 14 touchdowns as a freshmen in 2007. The Georgia Bulldog is already receiving comparisons to Garrison Hearst, one of the schools’ most productive rushers. Considering UGA is one of the favorites to compete for a national championship this season, Moreno should see plenty of opportunities to put up big numbers in 2008.
