Dan Wheldon Odds
Given his past success in previous 500’s as well as his solid 2008 season, oddsmakers clearly like Dan Wheldon’s chances to win the 92nd running of the Indianapolis 500, which takes place May 25. Oddsmakers at Online Sportsbook Bodog have made Wheldon one of the heavy favorites to win this Sunday’s Indy 500 at 4/1 odds.
Bet on Dan Wheldon in the 2008 Indianapolis 500
While he was beaten to the pole position by teammate Scott Dixon, Wheldon will start second on the grid at the 2008 Indy 500. His qualifying speed of 226.110 mph was just a tad slower than Dixon’s 226.366, but clearly oddsmakers – as well as the public – likes Wheldon’s chances of winning this year’s event, given that he’s been established as a 4/1 favorite.
Wheldon has had more than a marginal success at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In his first Indy 500 race in 2003, he placed a disappointing 19th after starting in the 5th position. The following year he finished 3rd and in 2005 he was victorious, finishing first after starting in the 16th position. His past two Indy 500’s Wheldon placed 3rd and 22nd, respectively.
While he’s not a clear-cut favorite (three other driver’s have 5/1 odds and Dixon has 11/4), there’s plenty to like about Wheldon’s chances of victory entering Sunday’s race. His vast experience on the track – specifically at Indianapolis Motor Speedway – is a major plus and the fact that he’s had success in previous 500’s makes him even more attractive. He’s been a top 5 finisher in three of the five Indy 500’s he’s appeared, so he’s a pretty good value with 4/1 odds to win (especially since he’ll be starting in the 2nd position).
