Ed Carpenter Odds
One could say Ed Carpenter has some family ties to Indy Car Racing. Carpenter – racing since he was 8 years old – is the stepson of Indy Racing League Founder Tony George. Despite making his highest starting position of any previous Indianapolis 500 appearance, oddsmakers from Online Sports Book Bodog have established Carpenter as a 50/1 favorite to win.
Bet on Ed Carpenter in the 2008 Indianapolis 500
Carpenter qualified for the 10th position in Sunday’s race, which will be the highest position he’s ever started for the Indianapolis 500. His four-lap average of 223.835 during qualifying will place him inside of row four. This year’s race will be Carpenter’s fifth Indianapolis 500 appearance.
Carpenter’s first Indy 500 was in 2004 when he finished a disappointing 31st after starting in the 16th position. He did better the following year, finishing 11th after starting in the 26th position. He again finished 11th in 2006 and last year he placed 17th after starting in the 14th position.
In four Indy 500 appearances, Carpenter has never finished better than 11th, thus his odds are rather long at 50/1 for him to win Sunday’s race. However, he did run as high as fourth place last year before a crash in front of him caused damage to his car and he finished 17th. He might be worth a look in driver-to-driver matchups with how well he ran last year before the incident. Still, he’s a long shot to win this year’s race at 50/1 odds.
