Pre-Derby Races: La Troienne Stakes (5:00pm ET); Churchill Downs Handicap (5:00pm ET); Churchill Distaff Turf Mile (5:00pm ET); Humana Distaff (5:00pm ET); Woodford Reserve Turf Classic (5:00pm ET).
Television Coverage of Kentucky Derby: NBC, 5:00pm ET (Bob Costas and Tom Hammond will co-host along side three-time winning jockey Gary Stevens). At 4:00pm ET, NBC Sports will show “Access at the Derby,” with “Access Hollywood host Billy Bush joining. Access at the Derby will also include the “Kentucky Derby Red Carpet Show presented by Head and Shoulders.”

Kentucky Derby Information:
The Kentucky Derby is held annually in Louisville, Kentucky and is a Grade I, one and a quarter race for three-year old thoroughbred horses. It always commences on the first May of the New Year and is the concluding event to a two-week-long festival. It’s rich in history and tradition, and is highly regarded as one of the most prestigious sporting events in the U.S.
The very first Kentucky Derby was won by jockey Oliver Lewis and his thoroughbred “Arisides” in 1875 with a time of 2:37.75. The fastest time every recorded at the Kentucky Derby was in 1973, when “Secretariat” and jockey Ron Turcotte recorded a time of 1:59.40. That time was almost eclipsed in 2001 by “Monarchos” and jockey Jorge F. Chavez, who won the derby with a time of 1:59:97.
Last year, jockey Calvin Borel raced “Street Sense” to victory with a time of 2:02.17.
