Half the MLB season is in the books and the race to the 2008 World Series is on. Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog have released National League Pennant odds to win and the Chicago Cubs are the favorites at 3/2.

The Favorites: Chicago Cubs 3/2 Odds to Win
The Chicago Cubs made a great acquisition by sending multiple major and minor league prospects to the Oakland A’s for starting pitcher Rich Harden. The club now has two excellent front-of-the-rotation starters in Harden and Carlos Zambrano, while Ryan Dempster and Ted Lilly are solid in No. 3 and No. 4 roles. The Cubs also have a complete lineup featuring Alfonso Soriano (when healthy), Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez, Geovany Soto, Kosuke Fukudome and a host of quality role players like Ryan Theriot, Mike Fontenot and Mark DeRosa.
The Values: St. Louis Cardinals, Milwaukee Brewers, Philadelphia Phillies
While the Cubs are getting a ton of deserved attention, the St. Louis Cardinals sit only a few games back of Chicago in the NL Central. At 17/2 odds, the Cards are a tremendous value and as long as star Albert Pujols can stay healthy, this club could overtake the Cubs in the second half.
The Milwaukee Brewers added C.C. Sabathia right before the All-Star Break and all the ace has done is win his first three games for the Brew Crew. Sabathia and Ben Sheets give the Brewers an outstanding 1-2 punch and the lineup is stacked with young talent in Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder, Corey Hart and Bill Hall. At 7/2 odds to win, Milwaukee has enough talent to overtake the Cubs and Cards in the NL Central or at least the NL Wild Card.
The Philadelphia Phillies will have to battle the New York Mets (4/1) for the right to the NL East crown, but adding Joe Blanton in a trade with the A’s will certainly help. Ryan Howard has seemingly turned around his early season struggles and Chase Utley continues to rip the cover off the ball. As long as the pitching holds up, the Phils are an outstanding value bet at 6/1 odds to win.
