World Series Guide
The 2008 World Series has been set as the Philadelphia Phillies are ready to take on the Tampa Bay Rays for baseball’s championship. We provided a viewing guide to this year’s Fall Classic, including start times, odds and more.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have made the Tampa Bay Rays –140 moneyline favorites, while the Philadelphia Phillies are +110. The best of seven World Series is a 2-3-2 format.
The Rays have come a long way this season. They opened the 2008 MLB Regular Season as whopping 150/1 odd long shots to win the 2008 World Series and now have 13/10 odds to win.
This will mark the first ever appearance for the Rays in the Fall Classic. Before 2008, Tampa Bay had never won their division, their conference and had never made it to the postseason.
Conversely, the Philadelphia Phillies have made it to the World Series five times in their franchise’s history, the last time being in 1993. They also competed in the 1915, 1950, 1980 and 1983 Fall Classic’s as well.
Of their five World Series appearances, the Fightin’ Phils have only won the Fall Classic once, when they beat the Kansas City Royals in 1980. In their latest appearance in 1993, the Toronto Blue Jays defeated Philadelphia in six games and that World Series is often referred to as the “Joe Carter Series” because the outfielder hit a game-winning three-run home run in the bottom of the 9th to help the Jays win Game 6.
The Phillies were 14/1 long shots to win the 2008 World Series at the start of the year, but now oddsmakers have established their odds to win at 8/5.
