Can Cherry Wine surprise at Belmont?
After finishing second in the Preakness Stakes a few weeks ago, can Cherry Wine pull off the upset in the Belmont Stakes on Saturday?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Cherry Wine is 7/1 to win the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, which puts his odds behind Exaggerator (5/6) and Suddenbreakingnews (5/1). Stradivari also has comparable odds at 7/1.
In nine career starts Cherry Wine has won twice, has finished second twice, and has placed third twice for career earnings of $518,878. His pedigree is Paddy O’Prado – C.S. Royce, by Unbridled’s Song and his trainer is Dale Romans. Jockey Corey Lanerie will have the ride on Saturday.
One of the biggest reasons to include Cherry Wine in your trifectas and exactas is that he has really come into his own of late. He won back-to-back races by a combined margin of 15 1/4 lengths before finishing fourth in the Rebel Stakes and third in the Blue Grass Stakes, where he was beaten by just a head.
While the loss in the Rebel Stakes cost him an opportunity to run in the Kentucky Derby field, Cherry Wine closed from 10th to finish second ahead of Nyquist by a nose in the Preakness Stakes. A natural closer, Cherry Wine should fair well on Saturday in the Belmont Stakes.
