2016 Belmont Stakes Predictions
Following his win in the Preakness Stakes, will Exaggerator win the 2016 Belmont Stakes this evening? Here are our official predictions for tonight’s race.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Exaggerator is a 9/5 favorite to win the Belmont Stakes, which takes place tonight at 6:37PM ET (post time). Stradivari has the next-best odds at 5/1, while Destin is 6/1 and Cherry Wine is 8/1. Both Suddenbreakingnews and Creator are 10/1, respectively, while Governor Malibu is 12/1.
WIN: Governor Malibu (12/1)
Five Belmont Stakes winners came directly out of the Peter Pan Stakes, which Governor Malibu finished as the runner-up to Unified this year. Governor Malibu has finished in the money in all six of his career races, has the tactical speed that often wins the Belmont Stakes, and both he and Joel Rosario are familiar with the Belmont Park track. The Belmont Stakes can often be unpredictable, so why not roll the dice on a long shot today?
PLACE: Exaggerator (9/5)
It’s difficult to leave Exaggerator off the board entirely after he won the Preakness Stakes, finished as the runner-up to Nyquist in the Kentucky Derby, and who has had such consistent success over his career. With thunderstorms expected in the Elmont, NY area tonight, the track at Belmont Park could be sloppy, just like it was at Pimlico when Exaggerator upset Nyquist. That said, he’s not as rested as Governor Malibu and closers don’t always fair well in the Belmont. He should finish in the money, however.
SHOW: Destin (6/1)
After finishing sixth in the Kentucky Derby and then skipping the Preakness Stakes, Destin will be coming off a five-week layoff. That’s right around the rest time that he received when he won twice at Tampa Bay Downs (Grade 3 Sam F. Davis on February 13 and the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby on March 12). With an impressive pedigree (Giant’s Causeway – Dream of Summer, by Siberian Summer), an outstanding jockey (Javier Castellano) and a trainer (Todd Pletcher) that has won big before, Destin could be another sleeper to win it all this evening.
