Laoban vs. Abiding Star Preakness Pick
Which 2016 Preakness Stakes contender will finish higher in the results on Saturday: Laoban or Abiding Star? Here is our pick for this head-to-head prop bet.
Which horse has better odds to win the Preakness Stakes: Abiding Star or Laoban?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, both Abiding Star and Laoban have 50/1 odds, respectively, to win Saturday’s race at Pimlico. Nyquist remains the favorite at 4/7 odds, while Exaggerator has the next-best odds at 3/1.
Who is favored to win in a Head to Head Matchup: Abiding Star or Laoban?
Like their odds to win the Preakness Stakes outright, both Abiding Star and Laoban have the same 20/23 odds to win head-to-head. Neither horse has to win the Preakness, just finish higher in the final results in order for bettors to cash their bet. This head-to-head matchup is a prop bet unrelated to the official Preakness results.
Who will win in the Head-to-Head matchup: Laoban or Abiding Star?
Abiding Star’s best Equibase Speed Figure is a 110, compared to Laoban’s 108, so these contenders are close. But the difference for me is that Abiding Star has been unstoppable since it took him seven starts to break his maiden. He’s won his last five starts by a combined 18 3/4 lengths, including an 8 3/4 length victory against older horses in an April allowance. He’s a two-time stakes winner, which includes the Park Derby in his last start on Kentucky Derby day. Abiding Star won’t win, but he should finish ahead of Laoban.
