Preakness Stakes Matchup Predictions
For those that don’t want to make traditional wagers on the 144th Preakness Stakes, there are head-to-head odds that are available. Here are the head-to-head matchup prop odds that we like for Saturday’s race at Pimlico Race Course.
Alwaysmining -125 OVER Anothertwistafate
Alwaysmining is stepping in class but then again, so is Anothertwistafate. Alwaysmining has won six straight, including four graded stakes races. A talented horse that has both the form and speed to challenge today in the Preakness, I like Alwaysmining over Anothertwistafate, who had a bad post draw (No. 12).
Win Win Win -115 OVER Warriors Charge
Win Win Win never got a feel for the track at Churchill Downs and wound up finishing ninth in the Kentucky Derby. That said, he was a fast-closing second in the Blue Grass and should fare better on a dry track today. Meanwhile, Warriors’ Charge won his last two starts by a combined 12 1/2 lengths but is making a big jump in class. Those horses that ran in the Kentucky Derby often fare better in the Preakness, which is why I’ll take Win Win Win over Warriors’ Charge at a decent price.
Owendale -115 OVER Bourbon War
Bourbon War finished second in the Fountain of Youth but fourth in the Florida Derby. He’s a natural closer and if there’s a lively pace, Bourbon War could have a strong finish today. That said, Owendale won the Lexington Stakes at Keeneland and has trained well under Brad Cox. Florent Geroux should have Owendale positioned somewhere behind the pace-setters but here’s the key in this matchup: Ahead of the deep closers like Bourbon War.
