American Pharoah to race on Sunday
OCEANPORT, NJ (The Spread) – 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah will race at Monmouth Park on Sunday and is a clear favorite over the field.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, American Pharoah is a 1/5 favorite to win Race No. 12 at Monmouth Park today at 5:52PM ET (post time). The Triple Crown winner’s biggest threat based on the odds is Upstart, who is 6/1.
Competitive Edge, meanwhile, is 8/1 to win Race No. 12 while Keen Ice is 12/1 and Mr. Jordan is 15/1. The two long shots are Top Clearance and Dontbetwithbruno at 30/1, respectively. Nonna’s Boy has been scratched for this evening’s race.
This will be American Pharoah’s first race since his historic run in the Belmont Stakes on June 6. He has won seven straight races dating back to September 3 of 2014.
Keen Ice finished third in the Belmont Stakes behind American Pharoah and Frosted but that was the first time he finished in the money since a third-place showing in the Risen Star on February 21. As for Upstart, he hasn’t run since finishing 18th in the Kentucky Derby so he should be well rested. Before that disappointing finish at Churchill Downs, Upstart had finished in the money in each of his seven career races.
