Best Director Odds
HOLLYWOOD, CA (TheSpread) – The category for Best Director at the 2011 Oscars appears to be anyone’s guess as two directors are nearly neck-and-neck for oddsmakers.
According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com, David Fincher, who directed The Social Network is a slight favorite over Tom Hooper, who directed The King’s Speech. Fincher has odds of -175 to win while Hooper comes in with odds of -150. Other nominees for the award are Darren Aronofsky (+1800), Joel & Ethan Coen (+3000), and David O’Russell (+3000).
It should be no surprise that Fincher and Hooper are the favorites to win as their movies are also the shortest odds to win Best Picture this year.
Fincher won the 2011 Golden Globe for Best Director this year, which is perhaps why he is a slight favorite, but The King’s Speech has been picking up steam amongst pundits as the Oscars have approached. Overall, the King’s Speech has more Oscar nominations than any film, which leads to praise for the director of the movie.
The 2011 Academy Awards will take place on Feb. 27 from the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood and will air live on ABC starting at 8:30PM ET. For complete odds for the Best Director category, see below
