Brazil meets Peru in Group B nightcap
Peru finished third in the past two Copa Americas. This year, however, fans acknowledge that not even a berth in the quarterfinals is guaranteed.
One way or another, tonight’s featured event at Gillette Stadium will give us clarity. Ricardo Gareca’s cast contests Brazil at 8:30 p.m. ET in the last match of Group B play. Oddsmakers at online sports book Bovada.lv side with Dunga’s vaunted program, whereas Peru represents a +750 underdog. The over/under goal total is 2.5.
All but assured a spot in the knockout stage, Brazil hopes to build on its performance from several days ago. The Selecao administered a 7-1 beating to Haiti. It was a huge, entirely necessary statement following a nil-nil draw against Ecuador.
If that same Ecuador squad defeats Haiti by two or more goals this afternoon, La Blanquirroja’s margin of error shrinks even further. A tie would then prove as calamitous as an outright loss. That’s why Paulo Guerrero must start fast and show how to penetrate Brazil’s defense for consistent stretches. Unfortunately for Peru, the Selecao’s blend of talent and experience won’t be denied here.
