Browns Season Odds
Are the Browns ready to take the next step after narrowly missing the playoffs last year? Oddsmakers think they have a decent shot and have listed Cleveland’s odds to win the 2009 Super Bowl at 25/1.
The Browns were certainly busy this offseason. Cleveland boosted their defensive line dramatically when they traded for Shaun Rodgers (Lions) and signed Corey Williams (Packers). The Browns also brought back quarterback Derek Anderson and running back Jamal Lewis, while beefing up the receiving corps with Donte’ Stallworth.
While Anderson is the current starter under center, some believe Brady Quinn will get his chance to shine if Anderson falters early in the season. Football pundits are high on the Browns’ chances this year after the team added quality defenses pieces and just missing the playoffs in 2007. Some even think the Browns are the team to beat this year in the AFC North.
Bet on the Cleveland Browns To Win Super Bowl XLIII
No matter where you look, Cleveland is considered a heavy long shot at all of the major bookmakers. Current prices on the Browns’ chances to win the 2009 Super Bowl range from 40/1 at SBG Global, to 28/1 Bodog, to 25/1 at Sportsbook.com.
Oddsmakers have also set the Browns’ over/under total for wins in 2008 at 8, but clearly think Cleveland will win more than 8 games considering the over pays out at –160 compared to +130 for the under.
The Browns appear to be on the verge of another playoff push after narrowly missing the postseason last year. They have one of the most explosive offenses in the league thanks to Anderson, Lewis, receiver Braylon Edwards and tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. The defense – the weakness of the team last year – has definitely improved with the additions of Rodgers and Williams, as well as young players like Kamerion Wimbley, Eric Wright and Brandon McDonald who are starting to emerge. At 40-1, the Browns are easily one of the best value picks in the league.
