Senior Investment vs. Multiplier
Can Senior Investment finish ahead of Multiplier and pull off a Preakness Stakes prop wager upset tonight?
The Odds
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Multiplier is the favorite at -150 odds to finish ahead of Senior Investment, who has odds of +120 to pull off the upset. Neither contender has to win the 2017 Preakness Stakes in order to cash this bet – simply finish ahead of the other horse.
Senior Investment Snapshot
An intriguing long-shot, Senior Investment has three wins and one third in eight career starts. He picked up his first stakes win in his second attempt, showing a late-closing head win over West Coast in the April 15 Stonestreet Lexington takes at Keeneland Race Course. In his only other stakes race, Senior Investment finished sixth in the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby behind, among others, Girvin, Patch and Local Hero.
Multiplier Snapshot
Lightly-run Multiplier is coming off a victory in the Grade 3 Illinois Derby on April 22. In his only other start, he finished third at a Maiden Special Weight back in January. In his victory at the Illinois Derby, Multiplier showed an impressive closing kick. The biggest issue with Multiplier is that he will be taking a huge step up in competition when he runs in the Preakness Stakes today. At least he’ll have an experienced rider in jockey Joel Rosario, who enters his fifth Preakness with two seconds, one third and one fourth to show in his prior starts.
Preakness Stakes Prediction
Both of these contenders have equal speed and given Multiplier’s lack of experience, Senior Investment is worth a play receiving plus odds today. In eight starts, Senior Investment has three wins and if he can repeat his performance in the Lexington Stakes, then I like his chances to edge out Multiplier.
