Casino Drive to Upset?
When the 2008 Belmont Stakes kicks off June 7 at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, there will only be one question on everyone’s minds: Will Big Brown win horse racings’ Triple Crown in 2008?
Actually, that’s not true. There will be a second question as well: Can Casino Drive pull off the upset of the year by knocking off Big Brown preventing the first Triple Crown winner since 1978?
“If Big Brown wasn’t in this race my money would certainly be on Casino Drive against the field that is currently entered.” said Mike Seaton of the sports information website TheSpread.com. “I would say having a ticket on Casino Drive to win Saturday would definitely be something the majority of bettors will be doing along with their Big Brown to win bets.”
After a win at the Kentucky Derby and an absolutely dominating performance at the 133rd Preakness Stakes, it’s easy to assume Big Brown will run away with the Belmont Stakes and therefore, the Triple Crown. And with oddsmakers from Online Sports Book Bodog giving Big Brown 2/7 odds to win at the Belmont, who could blame anyone for assuming he’s a shoe-in to win the Triple Crown?
Win $10,000 on the 2008 Belmont Stakes
But given the potential and air of mystery surrounding Casino Drive, it’s tempting not to believe that there could be a major upset at Belmont. Casino Drive has only started twice, but he’s undefeated entering the Belmont Stakes. He won a maiden race in Japan last year and was also victorious at the Peter Pan Grade 2 Stakes at Belmont Park in early May.
If there was any horse to pull off the upset and knock off Big Brown at the Belmont Stakes, Casino Drive is that horse. And clearly oddsmakers feel the same way as Casino Drive has the second best odds entering the Belmont at 9/2 to win.
