Road to the Chip
10 teams. 107 games. Over 250,000 kilometers. One trophy. The Road to the Chip marks the official start of the CEBL journey in 2022.
About the club
The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) and the Ottawa Blackjacks announced on Wednesday the launch of the all-season national “Road to the Chip” campaign to coincide with the CEBL 2022 championship. Having recently completed their second season, the Blackjacks have earned a semi-final appearance in the 2021 CEBL Championship in Edmonton. Ottawa’s management has experience in the NBA, NBA G League, national teams, NCAA and major international professional leagues.
Schedule of event
With three new teams, the Road to Fame will travel through six Canadian provinces and 10 cities before reaching its final destination in the nation’s capital. The programme will showcase the road to Canadian basketball glory.
The penultimate basketball party will be held in Ottawa from August 12-14. There will be musical performances and social events to support the semifinal and championship games of the Canadian Professional Basketball League.
What fans should expect
This CEBL season, the Blackjacks will show that all roads lead to Ottawa, the true capital of Canadian basketball. The Ottawa Blackjacks will play their first full season with basketball fans at TD Place Arena. Bookmaker Vulkan Bet is supporting the initiative.
Road to the Chip was born out of a true collaboration between CEBL and its first extended franchise. While the brand strategy was developed by Blackjacks management, the artwork was created by the marketing team at the league office.
Programme
A number of additional Road to the Chip initiatives will be available throughout the season for Ottawa Blackjacks fans and CEBL supporters.
Last season’s CEBL Championship Weekend festivities in Edmonton included a series of concerts featuring Canadian rapper and singer Roy Wood$, signed to OVO Sound. Kardinal Offishall, described as “an ambassador of Canadian hip-hop” and a current judge on Canada’s Got Talent, was the official performer at halftime of the CEBL Championship game. And 4Korners, a renowned DJ and music producer, was the official lead DJ. Fans can expect even more big-name performers in Ottawa this August, highlighting the importance of music and art in basketball culture.
From May to August, the brightest stars are expected to perform with the support of thousands of basketball fans. And world-class athletes will share their personal stories. Three new teams have been added to the CEBL this season:
-
Montreal Alliance;
-
Newfound Growlers;
-
Scarborough Shooting Stars.
Logo and its meaning
The main logo will feature the CEBL Championship Weekend wordmark Road to the Chip in gold and the Ottawa BlackJacks mascot “O.G.” anticipating the upcoming season, as well as the host city Ottawa in bold and gold lettering.
Road to the Chip paraphernalia will be available for sale in the TD Place shop and during all Ottawa BlackJacks home games. Thanks to an exciting partnership with Postmedia and the Ottawa Sun, a national advertising strategy will launch this month.
