Chile tackles Bolivia as Group D action heats up

Off to a rocky start at the helm of Chile, Juan Antonio Pizzi desperately needs something to break right. Luckily for the 48-year-old, his cast draws a favorable foe this evening.

Chile and Bolivia collide at 7 p.m. ET in Foxborough, Mass. Handicappers at online sports book Bovada.lv give Pizzi’s crew odds of -700 to claim tonight’s Group D opener. Bolivia, on the other hand, typifies a +1400 underdog. The over/under goal total rests at three.

Both countries are coming off 2-1 defeats and require at least a tie to have any chance of advancing in Copa America competition. Chile did make a major impression against Argentina, actually holding La Albiceleste scoreless for the entire first half. FIFA’s top-ranked squad eventually received tallies from Ever Banega and Angel Di Maria, though, sending Pizzi to his fourth loss in five matches with the national team.

Bolivia’s reputation isn’t nearly as esteemed. Checking in at No. 82 in the world, Julio Cesar Baldivieso’s bunch must rely on its defense to keep matters close. After all, Panama failed to net the deciding goal of Monday’s bout until three minutes remained in regulation.

Alas, La Verde won’t benefit from another muddy track here. Chile will aim to push the pace in New England, with Alexis Sanchez spearheading the attack. Expect the defending tournament champion to carve a fairly comfortable path to the 2016 quarterfinals.
