Odds: Stay Thirsty opened as a 30/1 long shot but is now has 20/1 odds to win according to online sports book Bodog. That puts him in the same company as Prime Cut, who is also 20/1, as well as Monzon, who is 30/1.
Race History: Stay Thirsty is coming off back-to-back duds in Grade 1 races. He finished a disappointing 12th at the Kentucky Derby on May 7 and took seventh in the Florida Derby on April 3. He did win the Grade 3 Gotham on March 5, but placed fifth at the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last November.
Outlook: If his effort at Churchill Downs is any indication of how he’ll run this weekend, it’s probably wise to stay clear of Stay Thirsty. He hasn’t made the board in two tries (both Grade 1 races) and was clearly overmatched in the Kentucky Derby. Considering he’ll see similar competition this weekend at the Belmont, I don’t think this is a sleeper. In fact, I see more value in Ruler On Ice (40/1), who hasn’t finished off the board in four straight races.
