Offseason Additions:
The biggest move the Pistons made this year actually didn’t come until after the season started when they traded popular veteran Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess for All-Star Allen Iverson. Detroit also signed Kwame Brown, although that obviously didn’t make a ton of headlines.
2008-2009 Season Outlook:
The biggest question surrounding this team is an obvious one: How will Iverson fit into the team’s system? How will he affect the chemistry? There’s no question he’s a phenomenal playmaker, but the Pistons’ strength over the years has always been, win as a team, lose as a team. That’s not to say A.I. isn’t a team player because he is, but there was nobody more popular than “Mr. Big Shot” Chauncey Billups in Detroit’s locker room.
If this team gels, look out. A.I. is a serious offensive playmaker and the Pistons do have some nice youth in Tayshaun Prince, Rodney Stuckey, Jason Maxiell and Amir Johnson. Adding Iverson makes Detroit more dangerous. But how dangerous? We’ll find out soon. One thing is for sure, this team will battle the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers all season long.
