Desperate Ecuador should feast on Haiti
Despite featuring an immensely talented front four, Ecuador finds itself in major trouble as the group portion of the Copa America tourney draws to a close. Can coach Gustavo Quinteros’ crew unearth the right formula vs. Haiti today?
All eyes shall be trained on MetLife Stadium at 6:30 p.m. ET. Online sports book Bovada.lv still endorses Los Amarillos, giving them odds of -1000 to prevail in New Jersey. Haiti, on the other hand, enters as a +2800 underdog. The over/under goal total sits at 3.5.
Ecuador must win – and have Brazil dismiss Peru later in the evening – to guarantee advancement. It’s a humbling situation for a nation that was heavily favored to reach the quarterfinals before the festivities began. Back-to-back draws against the Selecao and Los Incas, though, account for the current predicament.
Les Grenadiers never had such lofty expectations. Most observers barely batted an eye when Patrice Neveu’s team got pounded by Peru and Brazil. Haiti’s intense desire to leave the United States with at least a point, however, should ensure a competitive first half here.
After intermission, look for Ecuador’s sheer skill to shine. Miller Bolanos, Antonio Valencia and the rest of the gang will not tolerate a going-through-the-motions match in advance of the knockout stage, meaning Les Grenadiers must pay the price. Spectators in East Rutherford may want to avert those eyes down the stretch.
