Euro 2020 Latest Sports Postponement
According to an ESPN.com report, Euro 2020 will be postponed until 2021 due to the coronavirus after UEFA reached an agreement with key governing bodies on Tuesday. The calendar for 2020-21 will now be reworked.
Euro 2020 is just the latest sports and/or entertainment postponement due to the virus, following the likes of the NBA, NHL, MLB and NCAA. As of now, the NBA and NHL has merely suspended their seasons, while MLB is looking at a lengthy delay (perhaps to late May or even June). The NCAA, meanwhile, canceled the March Madness tournament following the cancellation of most of its conference tournaments.
European football has been greatly impacted as well by the coronavirus outbreak. The Champions League and Europa League were both suspended, while the Premier League is also on hold until April 3, although that could be at the earliest. Serie A is suspended, while La Liga has stopped for two matchdays.
Earlier Tuesday morning, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the NBA Board of Governors will meet via call on Tuesday to discuss the impact that the coronavirus pandemic has had on the league. It will be the third time that the Board of Governors have met since last Wednesday, when it was announced that Jazz player Rudy Gobert had the virus. Since that point, the NBA has acted swiftly by suspending its season and announcing that play might not resume until mid-to-late June. There’s also concern that the league may not resume in 2020 at all.
