The struggling Philadelphia Eagles hit the road Sunday to take on one of the more surprising teams in the NFL this season – the Baltimore Ravens.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Ravens a –1 point spread favorite. The over/under for this game has been set at 39.5 total points.
When looking at the trends, they certainly favor the over. The total has gone over in seven of Philadelphia’s last 10 games on the road, while the total has gone over in four of Baltimore’s last five games. With the total sitting at 39.5, we like the over, even though this game features two of the better defenses in the NFL.
Baltimore certainly has the edge defensively. The Ravens are allowing fewer passing yards at 188.5 to 194, as well as fewer rushing yards at 79.4 to 98.7. While the Eagles are only allowing 98.7 yards per game on the ground this year, Baltimore has averaged 147.4 yards offensively with the trio of Willis McGahee, Ray Rice and Le’Ron McClain.
The Eagles might have played to a 13-13 tie last week, but they could have easily destroyed a hapless Bengals team had Donovan McNabb not turned the ball over four times. Considering the Ravens have a better offense than the Bengals do, McNabb won’t be able to get away with turning the ball over that many times this Sunday. Expect plenty of turnovers, which should only lead to a fair amount of points.
