Will Power seems to be the hottest of the three favorites. Since there is no history for this race, you have to look at some recent trends and Power is coming off a win and a runner-up finish in his last two races. Power also has three races on the season and has shown an ability to do well on road courses, winning at Indy’s road course and taking second at Mid-Ohio. Look for Power to have another good run tonight.
Josef Newgarden is also very hot and he comes into tonight with 6/1 odds. Newgarden has finished in the top 2 in four of the last five races, including two wins. He picked up a victory at Mid-Ohio and also has won at Alabama and Toronto. He has been able to maintain a spot near the points lead for most of the season, but doesn’t get the respect as a favorite when it comes to odds. I think it’s a good pick to continue to ride his hot streak.
Ryan Hunter-Reay is a bit of a longshot with 11/1 odds tonight, but I think there is some value there. He has struggled most of the year, but has finished in the top 8 in his last three races. He also has had some good runs at other road courses in 2016. Hunter-Reay placed fourth in the opener at St. Petersburg and also was third in Indy’s road course. I am not sure he has what it takes to get his first win of the year, but he could put himself in position to steal one if he gets a little good luck to break his way.
