Grand Prix of St. Petersburg Picks
The IndyCar Series begins its 2017 season this afternoon with the running of the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg? Here’s our picks for the series opener.
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Will Power is the favorite to win today, as he has 2/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Scott Dixon (7/2) and Josef Newgarden (9/2). The Grand Prix of St. Petersburg takes place today at Noon ET from the street circuit in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Bet on the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg
Will Power is a two-time winner of this event, last taking the checkered flag in 2014. He also finished second in 2015. Last year, Power won four races and finished second in two others while finishing second in the series standings. He is the favorite today, and the numbers back that up.
Alexander Rossi is listed with 9/1 odds. He didn’t have the best year last year, winning just one race, but he showed promise toward the end of the season, finishing in the top 10 in his last two events. I think Rossi should be able to build on that strong finish and kick off his 2017 series with a top-5 showing, if not a win.
Helio Castroneves is a longshot with 20/1 odds to win. However, he is a three-time champion of this race, last winning in 2012. He also has finished in the top four the last four years. Despite the fact that he hasn’t won an IndyCar race since 2013, I still think he will contend at one of his best tracks and possibly get the upset win.
