INDIANAPOLIS, IN (TheSpread) – Dario Franchitti is the defending Indianapolis 500 champion and he is among the favorites to win this year’s race.

According to oddsmakers at online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, Franchitti has 7/2 odds to win the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday.
Franchitti will start in Row 3 from the No. 9 position on Sunday. In the history of the Indy 500, eight winners have started in Row 3 while just one winner has started from the ninth position. That came in 1993 when Emerson Fittipaldi got the crown.
Franchitti has competed in seven Indy 500’s in his career. He is a two-time champion, winning the title in 2010 and 2007. He has finished in the top 7 of his last 5 Indy 500’s.
This year, Franchitti is currently second in the IRL point standings, trailing Will Power for first. He has finished in the top four of each race and has one victory on the season.
The Indianapolis 500 will take place Sunday, May 29 from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at Noon ET. The race will air on ABC.
