Quarterback Todd Reesing returns to the Jayhawk offense after passing for 3,486 yards in 2007. Jake Sharp (821 rushing yards) and receiver Dexton Fields (834 receiving yards) will be Reesing’s main weapons in 2008, but the offensive line is going to need give him some protection. Defensively, linebacker Joe Mortensen (106 tackles), defensive end Max Onyegbule (3.5 sacks) and safety Justin Thornton (five interceptions) return from the 2007 squad that finished 12-1.
Major online sports books are inconsistent with the Jayhawks’ odds to win the 2009 BCS National Championship odds. Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog have made Kansas a 65/1 long shot, while Sportsbook.com has them at 75/1 and SBG Global at 35/1.
Kansas will once again lean on their terrific offense in 2008. Reesing has formed an excellent bond with receivers Dexton Fields and Dezmon Briscoe, and is the perfect signal caller to run head coach Mark Mangion’s offense. There are some questions along the offensive line and losing cornerback Aqib Talib on defense will hurt, but the Jayhawks are going to be in the mix in the Big 12. They face a tough road to win the 2009 BCS National Championship, but they’re also a terrific value based on their offense.
