Fujisawa A Weapon?
There is one horse that handicapping experts are noting has a shot to spoil Big Brown’s attempt at winning the Triple Crown at the Belmont Stakes. Unless you have been living under a rock you know the horse we are referring to is the Japanese owned, Casino Drive.
Casino Drive is currently listed as the next favorite after Big Brown at 9/2 odds to win according to the oddsmakers at online sportsbook Bodog.
With all the hoopla around the Big Brown vs. Casino Drive showdown, media outlets seem forgetting what could be the missing piece to this potential upset at the Belmont Stakes. The man behind what could once again extend the Triple Crown curse is none other than legendary Japanese trainer Kazuo Fujisawa.
Fujisawa is the John Wooden of Japanese thoroughbred horseracing. He learned his craft from legendary English trainer Gavin Pritchard-Gordon and since 1993 has won the Japanese “Trainer of the Year” award 11 times. His 11th win came last year when his horses won an amazing 48 races. Under his watch, Kazuo-trained horses have won the Japanese Horse of the Year on four separate occasions.
One important variable in the Belmont Stakes this Saturday is Casino Drive’s rider, Edgar Prado. Team Fujisawa leaned toward Prado not only due to his Japanese connections, but the fact he was the rider who spoiled the Triple Crown dreams of both War Emblem and Smarty Jones when he rode Sarava and Birdstone to wins in previous Belmont Stakes. Kazuo is assembling the pieces that he feels will capture victory for Casino Drive’s Japanese owners.
Win $10,000 on the 2008 Belmont Stakes
Kazuo is very much respected by everyone around Casino Drive and in the horseracing field in general and could possibly make his mark in the America by planning the perfect race to defeat Big Brown on Saturday.
