Kentucky Derby Results & Payouts
For the first time in the history of the Kentucky Derby, the horse that crossed the finish line first was not the winner. Following a lengthy objection involving Maximum Security, 65/1 long shot Country House was the 2019 Kentucky Derby on Saturday.
Maximum Security was clearly the best horse in the 12th race at Churchill Downs on Saturday, but an objection was filed immediately following the race. Stewards took roughly 20 minutes to review the race from several different angles before declaring Country House the winner.
The infraction came when Maximum Security drifted into the lane of War of Will. Country House was on the outside at the time that the objection occurred and was not impacted by Maximum Security, who cut off War of Will. Still, because Country House finished second behind Maximum Security, who was disqualified, Country House benefited.
A $2 wager on Country House to win netted bettors $132.40 because he was a long shot. A winning wager on Country House to place paid out $56.60 while a winning place on show paid out $24.60.
Code of Honor finished second, paying out $15.20 for place and $9.80 for show. Tacitus finished third, paying out $5.60 on a $2 wager to show. Below is the rest of the payouts, as well as the official results of the 2019 Kentucky Derby.
