MLB Division Odds
The second half is gearing up in baseball and oddsmakers have established which teams are the favorites to win each division in the American and National leagues. Check out the odds for each of the six divisions.
The NL Favorites: Chicago Cubs, Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies
Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog have established the Chicago Cubs as 2/7 favorites to win the NL Central after acquiring starting pitcher Rich Harden from the A’s. Oddsmakers also like either the Arizona Diamondbacks (1/1) or Los Angeles Dodgers (10/11) to emerge in the NL West and both the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies were given 1/1 odds to win the NL East.
The AL Favorites: Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels
The Boston Red Sox were given 2/3 odds to win the AL East. Oddsmakers clearly like the fact that Boston ended the first half on a high note and that the club will get back star hitter David Ortiz in the next month. Oddsmakers also love the Los Angeles Angels (1/15) to win the AL West and prefer the Chicago White Sox (4/7) over the Minnesota Twins (7/4) and Detroit Tigers (7/2) in the AL Central.
The Values: New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals
Oddsmakers have established odds for some tremendous value bets. The New York Yankees (6/1) always play well in the second half and certainly have the lineup to make a comeback in the AL East. The St. Louis Cardinals sit just 4.5 games back of the division-leading Chicago Cubs, yet were given 5/1 odds to win the NL Central. The Texas Rangers have a 7.5 game deficit to overcome, but given their lineup’s potential, 12/1 odds to win the AL West is tempting.
The Sleepers: Atlanta Braves, San Francisco Giants, Colorado Rockies
At the start of the season, the Atlanta Braves were once favored to win the AL East, so they could make a second half push if they don’t become sellers at the trade deadline. At 15/1 odds to win and only 6.5 games out at the break, the Braves have plenty to offer. As does the San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies, who are both in a weak division and have enough talent to surprise in the second half.
