NJ Mobile Sports Betting App Thriving
New Jersey’s retail sports betting went live in June 2018, just one month after the US Supreme Court repealed PASPA. The industry flourished right from the start, but the sports wagering market experienced explosive growth once online sportsbooks began launching in August that same year.
DraftKings Sportsbook launched the Garden State’s first online sports betting app on Aug. 6, 2018. Eight more online sportsbooks were live by the end of the year.
In just four months, online sports wagering from nine mobile apps brought in more than 63% of the total sports betting handle in 2018.
Today, New Jersey’s 19 sportsbook apps have brought in more than 88% of the state’s nearly $4 billion sports wagering handle for the year, through October 2019. The most popular Sportsbook app for New Jersey? Well that would be the DraftKings mobile app – downloaded and used more than any other book in NJ.
New Jersey sportsbooks by the numbers
October 2019 saw another record handle for New Jersey, as bettors wagered close to a half-billion dollars during the MLB baseball playoffs and World Series. Other sports favored by Garden State bettors include NFL football, NBA basketball and NHL hockey.
Data released by the state Division of Gaming Enforcement shows New Jersey sportsbook operators brought in $487 million in bets wagered in October, eclipsing the state’s previous monthly handle record of $445 million set in September.
Meadowlands, affiliated with Fan Duel and PointsBet online sportsbooks, dominated the New Jersey’s sports betting market, due in large part to its proximity to New York City.
The largest metropolitan area in the country is located a short distance away from the Garden State, just across the Hudson River.
The Empire State has not legalized mobile sports betting yet and, unlike other states, New Jersey does not require bettors to register in person for online sportsbook accounts.
Meadowlands took in nearly $25 million in sports betting revenue in October, up from $3.5 million in Nov. 2018. Resorts Digital, affiliated with DraftKings, was next at $10.5 million in revenue.
New Jersey mobile sportsbook apps and licensed retail affiliates
FanDuel and DraftKings lead the mobile sportsbook app market but there’s plenty of options to choose from.
All ten casinos and racetracks in the Garden State can legally offer sports wagering, and all of them do.
In addition to The Meadowlands Racetrack, the state’s other licensed sportsbook operators include Monmouth Park Racetrack, Ocean Resort Casino, Borgata Hotel and Casino, Bally’s Atlantic City, Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City, Resorts Casino Hotel Atlantic City, Golden Nugget Atlantic City, Tropicana Atlantic City and Hard Rock Atlantic City.
According to state law, each licensed sportsbook operator can launch up to three mobile app skins, and most of them do.
Unlike other states, bettors do not have to register in person for New Jersey online sports wagering accounts, but punters must be physically located within state lines to place a wager.
