The 2-0 Arizona Cardinals head to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Redskins on Sunday. Oddsmakers have made the Redskins a 3-point favorite.
The Arizona Cardinals are off to one of their best start in years after winning their home opener last Sunday against the lowly Miami Dolphins. Quarterback Kurt Warner has played outstanding so far, using explosive offensive weapons Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. But the Cards have yet to be truly tested. They beat the 49ers in Week 1 and the Dolphins, who only won one game last year, in Week 2. Washington will serve as Arizona’s first real test of the year.
After a dismal Week 1 performance against the Giants, the Redskins bounced back last Sunday by beating the New Orleans Saints. Quarterback Jason Campbell was efficient in the second half and the Washington offense took advantage of a suspect New Orleans’ secondary. Arizona’s defensive backfield has yet to be tested, so Campbell might be due for another solid game.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have made the Redskins a 3-point favorite and the over/under total has been set at 43. Current public betting information shows that 62% of bettors favor Arizona to cover the 3-point spread.
As previously noted, the Cardinals will face their first true test of the season, although the Redskins’ offense has been inconsistent so far this year. If Arizona can get to Campbell, he has proved to be inaccurate in the passing game. But as it proved last week, Washington is tough to beat at home and could fluster Warner if it can apply pressure. We predict the Redskins over the Cardinals 23-20.
