AFC South rivals battle in Indianapolis this Sunday as the Colts host the Jacksonville Jaguars. Oddsmakers have made the Colts 5-point favorites.
In what was supposed to be a matchup of 2-0 teams this Sunday, the Jaguars and Colts haven’t been themselves so far this season. Jacksonville has had issues with injuries along its offensive line, which has led to an ineffective running game and quarterback David Garrard under immense pressure. The Jags’ defense has been fine, although they’ve been left on the field way too long and it has caused them to tire in the fourth quarter.
Colts’ quarterback Peyton Manning might still be feeling the effects of having a bursa sac removed from his knee during the offseason because he hasn’t looked sharp outside of one quarter this season. That one quarter was a big one, however, as Indy was able to mount a comeback to beat the Vikings last week to earn its first win. The Colts might not get the Jaguars’ best rushing effort this week, but regardless, they would be far better off if they had top run defender Bob Sanders, who is out 4-6 weeks with a high ankle sprain.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have made the Colts a 5-point favorite and the over/under total has been set at 41.5. Current public betting information shows that 59% of bettors favor Indianapolis to cover the 5-point spread.
Both teams are desperate not to start the season off down one or two games in the division, but both are really struggling. The Colts might be in better shape because Manning looked good in the fourth quarter last week, but without Sanders, their run defense is vulnerable. Don’t expect a very clean game, so with that said, turnovers might be the difference in which team wins this contest. We predict the Colts over the Jaguars 17-13.
