Public Favors Titans
Even without their starting quarterback, the Tennessee Titans will look for their third straight win when they host the Houston Texans Sunday. Oddsmakers have made the Titans a 4.5-point favorite.
The Houston Texans were forced to take their bye week early after Hurricane Ike damaged their home stadium. The Texans-Ravens game last Sunday was postponed to a later date. Houston will look to rebound from their Week 1 loss in Pittsburgh, a 38-17 Steelers’ romp. Quarterback Matt Schaub will try to get into a rhythm against a solid Tennessee defense, but he could use a good effort from running back Steve Slaton to help take some of the pressure off his shoulders. The Texans’ defense is young, but they match up well against the Titans.
The Titans will play their second straight game without quarterback Vince Young, who will continue to miss time with a knee injury. Kerry Collins will make his second start in as many weeks after guiding the Titans to a win last week over the hapless Bengals. Rookie Chris Johnson has proved quite valuable to the Tennessee offense, making his case for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. The Titans’ defense should have no trouble shutting down a Texans’ running game that struggled in preseason and against Pittsburgh in Week 1.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have made the Titans a 4.5-point favorite and the over/under total has been set at 39. Current public betting information shows that 68% of bettors favor Tennessee to cover the 4.5-point spread.
The Titans will look to shut down the Texans’ running game and force Schaub to beat them through the air, which he could do if he can connect with wide receiver Andre Johnson for a couple of big plays. This shouldn’t be a high-scoring affair, but Tennessee has more than enough weapons to win by a touchdown-plus. We predict the Titans over the Texans 16-10.
