Prediction:
A lot of this game depends on the health of Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who hurt his shoulder in last week’s loss to the Buccaneers. The Falcons were shredded through the air last week in Carolina, but defensive end John Abraham leads the league in sacks and hasn’t had issues getting to the quarterback outside of last week’s game. The Packers have really struggled running the ball offensively and even though Atlanta has an inexperienced defense, if it doesn’t have to respect the threat of the run Abraham and company will come after Rodgers or rookie QB Matt Flynn. Offensively, the Falcons success depends on Michael Turner and the running game. In their two victories this season over the Lions and Chiefs, Turner rushed for over 100 yards, which helped open up the passing game for rookie quarterback Matt Ryan. Without defensive end Cullen Jenkins, things could be tough going for the Packers. If the rookie Flynn starts for Green Bay, we like the Falcons to pull off an upset. If Rodgers plays, it would mean he’s healthy enough to burn a young Atlanta secondary. We predict the Packers over the Falcons 23-16 if Rodgers plays. We predict the Falcons 16-13 if Rodgers doesn’t.
