Bengals Slight Favs
The Cincinnati Bengals host the Vince Young-less Tennessee Titans in their home opener Sunday. Oddsmakers have made the Bengals 1-point favorites in Week 2.
The Tennessee Titans won their home opener 17-10 over the Jacksonville Jaguars, but they lost their starting quarterback in the process. Vince Young was knocked out of the game early because of a left knee injury and will miss anywhere from two to four weeks. Kerry Collins takes over under center and will be accompanied by Rookie of the Year candidate Chris Johnson in the backfield. Of course, if the Titans defense plays as well as it did last week, then Collins and Johnson won’t have to do much. The Tennessee D posted seven sacks and held Jacksonville’s potent running game in check all day.
The Cincinnati Bengals turned out a horrific performance against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1. Quarterback Carson Palmer was held to under 100 yards passing while running back Chris Perry was highly ineffective. The Bengals defense was actually a bright spot, however, returning a fumble recovery for a touchdown and keeping the Ravens’ offense intact. For the Bengals to be successful this weekend, they’ll need a much better offensive performance from Palmer, Perry and receivers Chad Ocho Cinco and T.J. Houshmandzadeh.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Bengals 1-point favorites. The over/under total has been set at 37.5 and current public betting information shows that 57% of bettors favor Tennessee +1. Outside of being at home, there’s not a lot to like about the Bengals in this game. The Titans defense should be able to take away the Cincy running game and force the Bengals offense to be one-dimensional. And even though Young often keeps drives alive with his playmaking ability, the Titans’ passing game arguably improves with Collins under center. We predict the Titans over the Bengals 17-13.
Titans at Bengals Game Odds, Spread & Over Under Total
Titans +1 over 37.5
Bengals -1 under 37.5
