Broncos Slight Home Favs
AFC West rivals clash in Denver Sunday when the Broncos host the San Diego Chargers. Oddsmakers have made the Broncos 1-point favorites in Week 2.
The San Diego Chargers were devastated in Week 1, losing to the Carolina Panthers as time expired in the fourth quarter. The Chargers will look to avoid starting 0-2 on the year, but running back LaDainian Tomlinson has been hobbled by an injury and the team lost linebacker Shawne Merriman to season-ending surgery. If Tomlinson isn’t 100%, the pressure will fall on Philip Rivers and the San Diego defense to beat division rival Denver.
The Denver Broncos hammered the Oakland Raiders on Monday Night Football last week thanks in large part to Jay Cutler and the passing game. The Denver defense did its part too, harassing Raiders’ quarterback JaMarcus Russell and taking away the Oakland running game. The Broncos will need a similar effort this week against the Chargers, although they’re catching San Diego at a good time with Tomlinson, Merriman and Antonio Gates either out or battling injury.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Broncos 1-point favorites. The over/under total has been set at 45.5 and current public betting information shows that 57% of bettors favor Denver -1. The Chargers might be too banged up to pull off a victory this weekend in Denver. It’s hard to imagine a Super Bowl contender like San Diego starting 0-2, but the Broncos looked sharp Monday night, even if it was against the Raiders. Denver also gets a boost in the passing game with the return of receiver Brandon Marshall, who served a one-game suspension last week. We predict the Broncos over the Chargers 26-20.
Chargers at Broncos Game Odds, Spread & Over Under Total
Chargers +1 over 45.5
Broncos –1 under 45.5
