Pack Small Favs
In the first of two Monday Night Football Games, NFC North rivals clash in Green Bay as the Packers host the Minnesota Vikings. Oddsmakers have made the Packers a small 2.5-point favorite.
The Minnesota Vikings are expected to make some noise in the NFC this year, as long as quarterback Tarvaris Jackson is healthy and can develop, that is. 2007 Rookie of the Year Adrian Peterson is a dynamic young running back and the offensive line is solid. The defense is outstanding against the run and the pass rush got a major boost with the acquisition of former Chiefs’ defensive end Jared Allen.
The Green Bay Packers will take the field for the first time since the early 90s without quarterback Brett Favre under center. All eyes will be on Aaron Rodgers and how he handles the pressure of replacing a legend. He has help on offense with Ryan Grant, Donald Driver and Greg Jennings playing alongside of him, as well as an above average line. The defense should once again be a strong suit with a talented line and a great cornerback tandem in Al Harris and Charles Woodson.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Packers 2.5-point favorites at home. The over under total has been set at 37.5. Current public betting information notes that 65% of bettors favor Minnesota +1. This is an intriguing matchup but a lot will depend on if Jackson is healthy. He’ll play, but if he’s not 100%, the Vikings are going to struggle in the passing game. Their defense, however, should stuff the Packers’ run game and force Rodgers to pass early and often. We predict the Vikings over the Packers 20-16.
Vikings at Packers Game Odds, Spread & Over Under Total
Vikings +2.5 over 37.5
Packers –2.5 under 37.5
