Panthers Favored
Two undefeated teams square off in Carolina as the Panthers host the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Oddsmakers have made the Panthers 3-point favorites in Week 2.
The Chicago Bears dominated Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts in the opening week of the NFL season. Kyle Orton was efficient, Matt Forte was dazzling, and the defense was once again outstanding. The Bears will get an entirely new challenge this week against the upstart Panthers, who also won in Week 1.
The Carolina Panthers pulled off the most impressive win of Week 1 when they beat the San Diego Chargers on a last second touchdown as time expired. The Panthers got a great performance out of Jake Delhomme and the running game, especially without their best offensive weapon, Steve Smith, who was suspended for punching teammate Ken Lucas in an offseason practice. Carolina will be without Smith again this week, so it’ll be interesting to see how effective they’ll be against another top defense.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Panthers 3-point favorites. The over/under total has been set at 37 and current public betting information shows that 57% of bettors favor Chicago +3. Can the Panthers be as effective offensively for the second straight week without Steve Smith? They’ll have home field advantage, but the Bears just went into Indianapolis and tore up the Colts, so the road obviously doesn’t bother them. We predict the Bears over the Panthers 16-13.
Bears at Panthers Game Odds, Spread & Over Under Total
Bears +3 over 37
Panthers –3 under 37
