Hawks Home Favs
NFC West rivals do battle in Seattle when the Seahawks host the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon. Oddsmakers have made the Seahawks 6.5-point favorites in Week 2.
The San Francisco 49ers weren’t expected to do much this season, but some figured that they might turn out to be a sleeper in the NFC. If Week 1 was any indication, it looks like the 49ers will struggle again in 2008. Arizona soundly handled San Fran in Week 1 as the 49ers struggled putting points on the board. But if the offense can get going this week, the Seahawks are so banged up offensively that San Fran’s defense should be able to keep the 49ers in the game.
The Seattle Seahawks are in trouble. Not only do the not have a running game, but three of their top receivers are out with various injuries and the defense did not play well in Buffalo last week. The 49ers struggled offensively last week, but the Seahawks still need a better defensive effort, especially with Mike Martz (and his explosive offensive scheme) now in San Fran. There’s a lot of pressure on Hasselbeck, but the crafty veteran usually shines through no matter what the circumstance. It would go a long way if Julius Jones can get going on the ground.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Seahawks 6.5-ponit favorites. The over/under total has been set at 38 and current public betting information shows that 50% of bettors favor Seattle –6.5. Even after a rough start to the season, it’s hard not to like the Seahawks at home. But they need a better overall performance if they’re to notch their first win of the season. Seattle just doesn’t have enough weapons to blowout the 49ers, but the defense should step up so the Hawks can eek out a win. We predict the Seahawks 20-14.
49ers at Seahawks Game Odds, Spread & Over Under Total
49ers +6.5 over 38
