Smith was hurt in the Chiefs’ Week 16 loss to the Steelers but played through the injury and practiced earlier this week. After he reportedly went to the training staff to tell the team that he didn’t feel right, the injury was revealed and it was ruled Smith was out for Sunday’s game versus the Chargers.

The Chiefs opened as 3-point home favorites over the Chargers for Sunday’s crucial AFC West matchup but the line has dropped to Kansas City -1 according to online sports book Bovada.lv. The total for this game is currently sitting at 42 after opening at 43.

Chase Daniel will now start for the Chiefs, who are long shots to make the playoffs this season. They would need to beat the Chargers and also have the Jaguars beat the Texans and the Browns to beat the Ravens as well. As for the Chargers, if they beat the Chiefs then they’ll clinch a playoff spot and play in a wild card game next weekend.
