100 Meters Odds
The 2008 Summer Olympics are just days away and now is a great time to look at the favorites and long shots for the 100-meter men’s athletics event, that will take place in Beijing this August.

The Favorite: Tyson Gay, United States
Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog have made United States’ sprinter Tyson Gay a 9/5 favorite to win the 100-meter men’s event in Beijing. Gay is a three-time gold medal winner, coming in first in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 4×100-meter relay in 2007. Gay joined Maurice Greene and Carl Lewis as the only three triple champions in the world.
The Value: Asafa Powell
It looks like Gay’s chief competition in Beijing will be Jamaica’s Asafa Powell, whose odds to win have been established at 2/1 behind Gay (9/5) and Usain Bolt (5/4). Powell is considered the fastest man on earth, but lacks the intensity needed to win in the spotlight. Still, Powell won the bronze medal in the 2007 100-meter sprint and second in the 4×100-meter relay at the word championships in Osaka, Japan. So he’s a strong value bet.
As previously mentioned, Powell’s country mate Usain Bolt (5/4) should challenge for a gold medal in Beijing as well.
