Lions Road Favorites
It’s a new era for the Atlanta Falcons as they open the 2008 NFL Season by hosting the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Oddsmakers have made the Lions 3-point favorites.
The Detroit Lions hope that their explosive offense can stay intact despite losing offensive coordinator Mike Martz in the offseason and starting a rookie running back in Kevin Smith. The defense looks shaky on paper, but if Jon Kitna, Roy Williams, Calvin Johnson and Smith can light up the scoreboard, the defense won’t have to do too much.
The Atlanta Falcons dismantled their roster following a horrible 2007 season and will start a rookie quarterback in Matt Ryan. The former Boston College product will have help in the form of free agent running back Michael Turner and up-and-comer Roddy White at receiver. The Falcons defense doesn’t show a lot of promise and might struggle to get off the field on third downs this season.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Lions 3-point road favorites. The over under total has been set at 41. Current public betting information notes that 73% of bettors favor the Lions –3. This might be a high scoring game with both defenses looking suspect on paper. Even though the Falcons will start a rookie at quarterback, expect them to run the ball and keep the Lions’ dynamic offense off the field. If Atlanta can get pressure on Kitna, then they could pull off the small upset. We predict the Lions over the Falcons 23-20.
Lions at Falcons Game Odds, Spread & Over Under Total
Lions –3 over 36.5
Falcons +3 under 36.5
